I am the first to admit that when I first "discovered" how I could truly self-direct my retirement account, I didn't know what to think. Great opportunities yes, but where to turn for information and education (sorry, I'm a CPA)? So before you invest your retirement account in "non-traditional" investments like real estate, promissory notes, tax liens, etc., you owe it to yourself to have at least a cursory understanding of the rules surrounding self-directed investing.
Because large financial institutions don't want their clients to invest in non-traditional asset classes (or even know about them) you won't find hundreds of books or websites on this topic. But as the "masses" figure out that investing with Wall Street firms may not be the way to "financial freedom," investors are starting to wake up to other ways of building wealth.
Below is a listing of information that I think you'll find useful to help you get up to speed on self-directed retirement account investing. As more information is published, I'll make sure to post it here.
